GIS ANALYST I

GIS ANALYST I

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to apply the theory and principles of GIS software to database manipulation or product development.
  • Perform a variety of professional duties in support of geographic information systems (GIS) databases, software and capabilities.
  • Responsible for maintaining the accuracy and quality of GIS database information, developing cartographic products, and data analysis / visualization to support a wide variety of enterprise or departmental functions, processes and analytical requirements.
  • Generate custom and standard maps, spatial analyses and other GIS products to meet customer requirements.
  • Utilize GIS tools and utilities to convert data to GIS formats and performs data quality checking and correction.
  • Assist with script maintenance, application testing, monitoring or minor application modifications.
  • Provide help to less-knowledgeable GIS Users.
  • Work reviewed for accuracy and adherence with established methods, procedures and standards periodically by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Example 1: Master's degree in GIS, GIScience, geography, or a closely related field.

Example 2: Bachelor's degree in GIS, GIScience, geography, or a closely related field - AND - 1 year of experience in the use & operation of GIS.

Example 3: Completion of a recognized GIS certificate program or Associate's degree in GIS, GIScience, geography, or a field requiring at least 18 units of coursework in GIS - AND - 3 years of experience performing technical duties in support of geographic information systems using standard tools to populate & manipulate GIS databases and generate GIS products.

GIS PROGRAMMER / ANALYST I

GIS PROGRAMMER / ANALYST I

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform complex professional duties in support of enterprise and departmental GIS databases and geographic information systems capabilities.
  • Must be able to import, integrate, extract and analyze data for a variety of decision support purposes.
  • Design, develop and maintain specialized data sets and layers within enterprise GIS database layers or in separate databases to support required analytical functions.
  • Participate in design, programming, testing, implementation, administration and maintenance of GIS applications, tools and associated databases.
  • Independently perform duties of considerable difficulty focused on data analysis and visualization, database maintenance, cartography, and/or application development.
  • Assignments typically involve the use of conventional methods and techniques, but also often require adapting methods to the issues involved and interpreting findings in terms of their significance.
  • Develop user/data requirements to meet departmental user/program needs and may serve as departmental business analyst/project leads for application development projects.
  • Completed work is reviewed primarily for general acceptability, feasibility and relevance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Example 1:  Master's degree in GIS, GIScience, geography, or a closely related field - AND - 1 year of experience that demonstrates knowledge of GIS functions, processes & analytical requirements or received an equivalent certification in computer science/GIS programming.

Example 2: Bachelor's degree in GIS, GIScience, geography, or a closely related field - AND - 2 years of experience that demonstrates knowledge of GIS functions, processes & analytical requirements or received an equivalent certification in computer science/GIS programming.

Example 3:   2+ years experience at the level of Geographic Information Systems Analyst that demonstrates knowledge of GIS functions, processes & analytical requirements - AND - demonstrated proficiency or received an equivalent certification in computer science/GIS programming.

GIS PROGRAMMER / ANALYST II

GIS PROGRAMMER / ANALYST II

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform highly complex professional duties in support of enterprise and departmental GIS databases and geographic information systems capabilities.
  • Must be able to use a wide range of development tools / software to complete extensive analysis of GIS data, functionality, and architecture.
  • Participate in project design, testing, programming, implementation & maintenance of large-scale GIS applications, tools & associated databases.  
  • May supervise or mentor a small team for some projects.
  • Independently perform duties focused on large-scale GIS application & database projects with complex analytical assignments.
  • Must be able to easily adapt according to customer requirements.
  • Assignments typically involve varied & complex features with novel or ambiguous issues.  Addressing these issues may require extensive problem solving and modification of standard procedures, methods, or techniques.
  • Requires the use of significant judgement & ingenuity in developing plans or approaches to meet project objectives.
  • Completed work is reviewed primarily for overall acceptability, feasibility and relevance in meeting the needs of the customer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Example 1:  Master's degree in GIS, GIScience, geography, or a closely related field - AND - 4 years of experience in the use & operation of GIS, with 2 of those years performing GIS data analysis, database management, or GIS application development projects.

Example 2: Bachelor's degree in GIS, GIScience, geography, or a closely related field - AND - 5 years of experience in the use & operation of GIS, with 3 of those years performing GIS data analysis, database management, or GIS application development projects.

Example 3:   4+ years experience at the level of Geographic Information Programmer / Analyst performing GIS data analysis, database maintenance or application development projects.
